Mark Gonska was the first face I saw after being notified that my position was eliminated. He was the calm and reassuring voice that I needed at that time. He assured me that he would be by my side to not just find a new job, but to find a company and job that was best for me. Mark doesn't find a job for you. He does, however, provide the framework, connections and inside knowledge about how hiring works in today's day and age. In our conversations, Mark frequently used a phrase that resonated with me; "In order to get what other people have, you must be willing to do what other people won't." When my 30+ year career was abruptly curtailed by my employer, I found myself living in a new country, very few professional connections and very few ideas how to find alternative employment. The severance had been something of a shock, but even with more notice I would not have known where to start to prepare.
My big break was being introduced to Mark Gonska. Mark’s upbeat and positive demeanour immediately picked me up and, over a relatively short period, he filled me with inspirational ideas, direction and a new sense of purpose. Some of his guidance seemed difficult to adopt, for example the opportunity to find a new career through networking. However, within a handful of weeks Mark had shown me how to find and secure a new career through an existing connection of many years’ standing, helped me establish and negotiate the appropriate rates for working as an independent contractor, and set me on a path of a very different career which was very successful for over 2 years.
When I began to tire of that position, I continued to follow Mark’s advice and secured a different position back in my core field. Again, Mark’s guidance proved invaluable. This position was much more to my liking, far better opportunities, a much more senior position, and my life has been transformed.
